The questions we are really asked.

On tubulars, tubular tyres, tubeless, tape, sealant, lead times and distribution in France.

Buying in France

Who is Velox for Tufo?

Établissements Velox, in La Guerche-de-Bretagne, is Tufo's official distributor for France: it imports and stocks the range, sells it to individuals through velox.fr, and supplies shops through its long-standing distributors. This site presents the full range; purchases are made on velox.fr.

Are the prices shown those of velox.fr?

Yes, including VAT, as recorded on the date shown under each table. In case of discrepancy, the shop prevails. The prices on tufo.com, in euros excluding shipping from the Czech Republic, are not those of French distribution.

What does “on order” mean?

That this size or colour is not in stock at the consumer shop. Velox can order it from Tufo: write to the sales team with the exact reference and they will give you a lead time. It is not a discontinued product.

Where does the stock gauge come from?

From the velox.fr shop, queried by our server each time the page is displayed — never by your browser, which only talks to tufo.fr. It shows steps of five: “+10 in stock” means at least ten units. If the shop does not respond, the gauge is hidden rather than showing a wrong value.

I'm a bike dealer: how do I order?

Through one of Velox's long-standing distributors — CGN France, P2R, MFDC or G2A. The Dealers and retailers page gives the links and the process. No contact yet? Write to us: we pass you on to the distributor for your area.

Tubulars and tubular tyres

Do you need glue for a Tufo tubular?

No. Tufo recommends its double-sided tape, with no drying time or fumes: you lay it, remove the red strip while centring the tubular, inflate, ride. Liquid glue works too, but needs two coats and a night to dry.

What is a tubular tyre, and which rim does it fit?

A Tufo tubular fitted with a profiled bead, which fits without glue on a hooked clincher rim, like a conventional tyre. It is recognisable by the “C” before the name (C S33 Pro, C Hi-Composite Carbon, C Elite Ride). It does not fit on a hookless rim.

Can a Tufo tubular be repaired?

Yes, through the valve: sealant before the ride seals up to 5 mm, Carbon repair liquid after a puncture up to 6 mm. A Tufo is not unstitched, its tube is vulcanised to the casing. See the dedicated article.

Why is TPI written with two numbers?

The first is the number of threads per inch on the sidewall, the second under the tread, where the plies overlap. 210/375 is the standard race casing, 60/90 the training one.

Is the stated weight an average?

On models marked “guaranteed weight” — Elite S3, Elite Jet, Elite Track, S3 Lite, XC14 TR SG — it is a maximum: the tubular weighs that or less. On the others, Tufo states a tolerance of about 5%, due to natural materials.

Tubeless ready

Are Tufo TR tyres hookless compatible?

Yes, all of them: Comtura 4, 5, Prima and Prima TT, Endurance 7 TR, gravel tyres and XC TR SG. On a hookless rim, respect the rim's maximum pressure, which is lower than the tyre's.

Which sealant should I use?

Tufo Tubeless Ready sealant, designed for the inner rubber of these tyres: 40 to 50 ml per road wheel, 60 to 80 ml for gravel, 90 to 120 ml for MTB. The “tubular” sealant is a different product, not to be confused with it.

Can you put an inner tube in a Tufo tubeless ready tyre?

Yes, that is the point of “ready”: they also fit with a tube, on a hooked rim. It is also the fallback in case of a big cut.

HD or standard, for a gravel tyre?

HD if you ride loaded, heavy or on tracks that cut; standard for racing and comfort. Thirty grams difference per tyre, same tread. The article on choosing a gravel tyre gives the detail.

Pressure, wear, warranty

What pressure should I ride?

Within the range stated on each size's product page, and within the rim's. For a starting point by width and weight, see the article on pressure.

How do I know a Tufo is worn?

By the tread: when the tread pattern fades in the centre, or a differently coloured rubber appears under the tread, the tyre needs changing. A tubular that has been ridden flat, a cut sidewall or a split tread should also be replaced.

Can you ride on a punctured tubular?

A few hundred metres, at reduced speed, to get to safety or home: it is one of the advantages of the tubular, which stays on the rim. The tubular then needs replacing.

What is the warranty?

The legal guarantee of conformity, from Velox for any purchase on velox.fr or from a French retailer. A tyre is a wear part: cuts, tread wear and fitting damage are not covered.
