Valve core and key, in a few words
What it is for
The valve core is the small removable part at the heart of a Presta valve — the one that lets air in and stops it getting out. It wears, its seal hardens, and a tired core causes a slow leak that can take weeks to diagnose. This one comes with an O-ring.
The key
The valve key is the tool that unscrews and refits the core. You need it in three cases: to inject sealant through the valve, to fit an extender, and to tighten a core that has come loose by itself. It fits in a saddle bag and costs the price of a coffee.
