Standard puncture protectionAn extra layer of rubberised casing under the tread: a barrier sufficient against most punctures, without hurting efficiency.
Airtight TR compoundInner compound of nano-blocks, built into the casing, which holds air without a tube. It is what makes a tyre “tubeless ready”.
SPC Silica compoundTufo's reference road compound: 66 Shore A, a blend of natural and synthetic rubbers loaded with activated silica, for wet grip and low rolling resistance.
Rubber puncture stripA layer of rubber laid under the tread: whatever passes through the rubber stops there before reaching the casing. It adds to the model's puncture barrier, it does not replace it. Tufo calls it the “protective rubber ply”.
Comtura 5 TR, in a few words
What it does
The Comtura 5 TR is the way into tubeless at Tufo: the lowest price in the range, without the construction really changing. It is the tyre to fit when you want to try tubeless without committing the price of a pair from the top of the range, and the one you put back on afterwards for training.
What stays, what goes
You keep the 210/375 TPI casing and the SPC Silica compound of the higher models: the comfort and the mileage are there. What changes is the puncture protection — a standard layer instead of the Vectran barrier. In practice, that is more than enough for everyday riding; it is in racing, on sharp roads, that the Vectran justifies its extra cost.
Fitting
Aramid beads, compatible with hookless rims, usual tubeless fitting with sealant. In 25 and 28 mm, black or tan sidewalls.
