The Comtura Prima is Tufo's top-end tubeless ready. It combines a Grip Silica tread compound, which grips even on wet roads, with a low-hysteresis Liquid Rubber casing that lowers rolling resistance. The Vectran barrier under the tread makes it suited to long races as well as hard training. Hookless compatible.

The Tufo technology in this model

Vectran barrier
The toughest material in the Tufo catalogue: a Vectran ply, a liquid-crystal polymer five times stronger than steel at equal section, against punctures, cuts and blowouts.
Grip Silica compound
Tread compound with nanostructured silica, tuned for each discipline. Its strength is grip, especially in the rain.
Liquid Rubber casing
Casing compound of liquid rubber and nanostructured silica, with low hysteresis: it is what gives the top-end models their efficiency.
Rubber puncture strip
A layer of rubber laid under the tread: whatever passes through the rubber stops there before reaching the casing. It adds to the model's puncture barrier, it does not replace it. Tufo calls it the “protective rubber ply”.

Comtura Prima, in a few words

What it does

The Comtura Prima is the race tyre of Tufo's tubeless range: the one you fit for a sportive, a road race or a fine Sunday ride, and keep for training afterwards because it lasts. It aims at two things at once — riding fast and holding on in the rain — where most race tyres pick the first and give up the second.

The compounds

The tread is made of Grip Silica, a compound with a high proportion of silica: that is what gives grip on wet roads, on white lines and on the cold tarmac at the start of a ride. Underneath, the casing is impregnated with Liquid Rubber, a low-hysteresis rubber — it returns less energy as heat with every turn of the wheel, so there is less rolling resistance. The tread pattern is smooth in the centre, with a subtle texture on the shoulders.

The casing and the protection

A supple 210/375 TPI casing that follows the flaws of the road surface instead of bouncing off them — as much comfort as speed retained. Under the tread runs a Vectran barrier, a very high-tenacity fibre that stops glass splinters and flints without stiffening the tyre, and that helps stability in corners. A rubber puncture-protection strip backs it up, just under the tread.

Fitting

Aramid beads and a profile compatible with hookless rims, like almost all recent carbon rims. Standard tubeless fitting: airtight rim tape, valve, Tufo Tubeless Ready sealant. In 25, 28 and 32 mm, black or tan sidewalls.
