Successor to the S3 Lite, the Elite S3 weighs under 225 g in 23 mm with a 210/375 TPI casing, a redesigned tread and a wider base tape for a more secure bond. The Vectran barrier protects it in races. It is also the tubular that comes in colour: red, blue, yellow or tan sidewalls.

The Tufo technology in this model

Vectran barrier
The toughest material in the Tufo catalogue: a Vectran ply, a liquid-crystal polymer five times stronger than steel at equal section, against punctures, cuts and blowouts.
SPC Silica compound
Tufo's reference road compound: 66 Shore A, a blend of natural and synthetic rubbers loaded with activated silica, for wet grip and low rolling resistance.
Rubber puncture strip
A layer of rubber laid under the tread: whatever passes through the rubber stops there before reaching the casing. It adds to the model's puncture barrier, it does not replace it. Tufo calls it the “protective rubber ply”.

Elite S3, in a few words

What it does

The Elite S3 is Tufo's lightweight race tubular, successor to the S3 Lite. Under 225 g in 23 mm, and this figure is a guaranteed maximum, not a factory average. It is the versatile competition tubular of the range: light enough for racing, protected enough not to be kept for high days.

What has changed

Compared with the S3 Lite, the tread has been redesigned and the base tape widened. That last point matters when fitting: a wider base tape offers more contact surface for the double-sided tape or the glue, hence a more secure bond and easier centring on the rim.

The construction

210/375 TPI casing, SPC Silica compound, Vectran barrier and a rubber puncture-protection strip under the tread. It is also the tubular that comes in colour: black, red, blue, yellow or tan sidewalls, in 23 and 25 mm.
