What it does
The XC4 SP is the wide MTB tubular of the range: 2.2 inches, for the hard, rocky terrain of cross-country and marathon. More volume means more cushioning — and on a tubular, that volume can be used at very low pressures with no risk of pinching.
What the section allows
At 2.2 inches with no inner tube, you can go down to pressures that would turn a tubed tyre into a scheduled puncture. The tubular wraps around the rock instead of hitting it: traction goes up, fatigue goes down, and the rim is better protected than with a narrow tyre pumped hard.
