The Tufo technology in this model

Oil Silica compound
Soft compound (55 Shore A) for MTB and cyclo-cross tubulars: a share of oil in the activated-silica blend, for traction and comfort.
No pinch flats
Without an inner tube, an MTB tubular cannot get a pinch puncture against the rim: you can ride at lower pressure.
Fitting with Tufo tape
The tubular fits on Tufo double-sided tape: no drying time, no fumes, and a red guide strip for centring the tubular.
Composite puncture-protection belt
A composite belt of rubber and fibres laid under the tread, which allows a thinner tread — hence better efficiency — without losing resistance.

XC5, in a few words

What it does

The XC5 is the mud MTB tubular. Greasy ground, soaked woodland, autumn races: it is the one you fit when the ground gives way and other tyres turn into skates.

The tread

Tall, widely spaced knobs. The spacing is the key: it lets mud shed by itself with every wheel revolution instead of filling the gaps. The pronounced side knobs hold the line when the wheel goes into a controlled drift.

The construction

120/180 TPI casing, Oil Silica compound, puncture-protection belt. 29 × 2.00. Like all MTB tubulars, it does not pinch and can be ridden at very low pressure. Fits with Tufo double-sided tape.
