The Thundero is Tufo's all-round gravel tyre. Its centre of small, tight blocks rolls quietly on asphalt and fast tracks; its three rows of shoulder knobs bite as soon as the ground gives way. Supple 210/375 TPI casing, nylon-reinforced sidewalls, puncture-protection belt. Hookless compatible. From 36 to 48 mm.

The Tufo technology in this model

Standard puncture protection
An extra layer of rubberised casing under the tread: a barrier sufficient against most punctures, without hurting efficiency.
Grip Silica compound
Tread compound with nanostructured silica, tuned for each discipline. Its strength is grip, especially in the rain.
Airtight TR compound
Inner compound of nano-blocks, built into the casing, which holds air without a tube. It is what makes a tyre “tubeless ready”.
Nylon-reinforced sidewalls
A nylon ply on the sidewalls of gravel and XC tyres: protection against cuts and stability at low pressure.

Gravel Thundero, in a few words

What it does

The Thundero is Tufo's all-round gravel tyre, and the default choice if you only fit one. It rolls on asphalt to reach the tracks, holds on fast gravel roads, and only admits defeat in thick mud — that is where the Swampero takes over.

The tread pattern

Two clearly distinct zones. In the centre, small tight blocks: they form an almost continuous strip that rolls fast and quietly on hard surfaces. On the shoulders, three rows of serrated knobs that only come into play on the lean — and then bite properly, which allows tight turns on gravel.

The casing and the sidewalls

A supple 210/375 TPI casing: it smooths uneven surfaces and stops the tyre bouncing, which keeps the bike stable at low pressure. The sidewalls are lined with a nylon layer, supple and resistant, that protects against stone cuts — the most frequent injury in gravel, and the least repairable. A puncture-protection layer covers the tread.

Fitting

Tubeless ready, aramid beads, compatible with hookless rims. In 36, 40, 44 and 48 mm. For loaded bikepacking or very sharp terrain, see the HD version.
